Food insecurity is among the significant concerns that have troubled Africa a great part for a long time. According to oxford Advanced Learners dictionary, “agribusiness is an industry concern with the production and sales of farm products, especially involving large companies”. Agriculture does not only involve the tilling of the land but also activities such as animal keeping, farm machinery manufacturing, and sales. The traditional notion about agriculture has been significantly changed by agribusiness, and many youths participated in it. Agriculture is an essential sector in Africa as it results in the hub of economic activities. Many people have engaged in farming but cannot sustain themselves and their families. This makes people believe agriculture to be traditional practice for the old generation.
Technology improves mainly small business performances in developing countries like Tanzania. The current agribusiness creates room for a lot of job opportunities. Agriculture and technology cannot be easily separated because technology plays a critical role in agriculture. Having a business company without a website is the same as doing agriculture traditionally where all the target is subsistence harvest. Technology developments like using electronic systems and data transmission have led to a significant change in the agricultural working environment. Human beings’ lives have been tremendously improved by advancing technology within agriculture, both economically and socially.
Technology has made agriculture very suitable and profitable; it has mostly reduced the manual work land imposed on many farmers. For instance, high tech complex machinery performs typical jobs to be completed by farmers. Farmers can bale bay using very minimal time compared to today.
Advanced technology in agriculture has made a big difference in many lives. Agriculture gives you basic extraordinary living, food, and clothes to put on. It also has many sources of income. Survival could be very tough without agriculture. Even though the current rate of population growth is alarming, new technologies have led to substantial improvement in productivity. Making particular agricultural sectors is in a position to provide food without struggling.
Technologies have given companies opportunities to using underground water used in irrigation. They are brought on board to offer cheap drilling waters in neglected in the rural to assist in boosting productivity for small scale farmers. Through technologies, seed companies acquire farmers’ information about hybrid seeds that are improved, which can survive in high temperatures and deal with stubborn weed like striga. Using these criteria, farmers are likely to have high yields
The use of crop sensors technologies is capable of totally transforming food production. The smart sensors can read everything from the plant’s health and the water needs of the crop to the level of nitrogen of the soil. Optical sensing technology is used to monitor crops’ health by measuring light reflectance from the plant, which translates into nitrogen levels. Electronics controllers are connected to the sensors to signal fertilizer spreaders to use the right amount of nitrogen that may be required.
In conclusion, the introduction of technology in agriculture has resulted in a substantial increase in food production as well as doing away with issues relating to the lack of enough food in the future. Technological advancements like crop sensors, irrigation systems, and fertilizers have helped in the proper fielding of crops. Agriculture is considered to be one of the principal economic activity in Tanzania and the whole country’s well – being depends on it.
